ACOR is pleased to announce a public lecture:

Baths and Bathing in Late Roman/Byzantine Jordan

Robert Darby

Kress Fellow at ACOR, Ph.D. Candidate in Classical Archaeology at the University of Missouri, Columbia

Wednesday June 3, 2009, 6:00 pm  ACOR (Jordan)

The lecture will be a broad survey of selected balnea in Jordan and will present associated epigraphic and literary evidence regarding baths and bathing in the provinces of Arabia/Palaestina from the third to the sixth centuries C.E.. Further, it will seek to highlight their influence on Early Islamic hammams in the region. The talk will conclude with a brief overview of my current research on Late Roman/Early Byzantine military baths in Arabia/Palaestina.

R. Darby, associé au programme Balnéorient, a présenté en mai 2008 lors de notre deuxième colloque une communication sur les bains de Yotvata : “New excavations at the Roman military Bath at Ghadian/Yotvata in the Southern Arabah. Preliminary results of the 2006 & 2007 seasons”.
