Publication of the Acts: Practical details
(version française : cliquer ici)
Deadline for publication
We have to present a model of the volume to the l’Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) which financed the Balnéorient programme in May 2010. Hence, we request you to send us your texts and illustrations before February 15, 2010 which is the final deadline.
Edition and format
The Acts will be jointly published by the Ifao (Institut français d’archéologie orientale – Le Caire) and the Ifpo (Institut français du Proche-Orient). In parallel to a print version, an identical volume in electronic version will be put online for sale by Ifpo.
Given the large number of papers that were presented or proposed for the acts, we are obliged to limit the number of pages and graphic documents for the paper edition. In order to compensate for this, a digital volume of graphic and documentary annexes (photos, maps, corpus and sources) will be added to the main volume. This will allow you to access a more varied graphic or textual documentation which would be more sophisticated and more abundant than the paper version.
Length of the text and illustrations
We have fixed the following limits according to the type of presentations proposed. Illustrations (other than the volume of Annexes) should as far as possible avoid colours:
- Case Studies (short presentations): between 20 000 and 40 000 characters (including spacing) and 20 illustrations.
- Synthetic approaches or Studies of corpus (long presentations): between 30 000 and 60 000 characters (including spacing) and 20 illustrations.
Iconographic or documentary supplements destined for the volume of Annexes should not exceed (for each article) twenty plates, in colour or in grayscale, including legends and the required credits. If your contribution requires a better framework, kindly contact us to find the best possible solution with the approval of the Editorial committee.
Languages and Abstracts
You can send us your contributions in French, English or Arabic, which were the languages for the symposium. In addition, we request you to kindly send us an abstract (between 5000 and 10000 characters including spacing) along with your text, which will be translated to two of the other languages and inserted at the beginning of your text. This trilingual abstract will also be published on the website of the Balnéorient project and eventually on that of other institutional sites as well (Hal-Shs, Ifao, Ifpo, etc.)
Conditions of publication
Acceptance of your contribution is subject to the approval by the editorial committee (see members list) and a referee. Once we have his/her report and the assessment by the editorial committee, a new and corrected version will be eventually requested. During the correction of proofs, certain additions and modifications will be permitted. However, addition or deletion of a note or of a paragraph is unfortunately not possible.
The editorial norms are that of the Ifao, as they are explained on the website, under « publications, outils pour l’édition » (domaine des études égyptologiques, papyrologiques et coptes). We request you in particular to carefully follow the instructions for the notes and the bibliography (which has to be compulsorily presented in the Anglo-Saxon style at the end of the article, cf. section B.5 «Autre système possible» under the suggestions section of the Ifao.
Your texts (along with the list of legends and figures) should be sent as a Word (.doc) file, along with a PDF version of the same. Please do not use page styling and formatting but uniquely mark the order of the titles (I, I.1, I.1.1, etc.). Please include a list of the fonts that you use along with your attachments and kindly limit yourself to Unicode fonts alone (Lucida grande, Gentium…).
The illustrations should be of a high quality (300 pixels/inch for publication, please refer to the rules on the Ifao website). A preview for publication indicating the layout for photos and sketches (scale, disposition) would be preferred. Number the documents and cite references individually in a continuum. The page dimensions are 24.5 x 32 cm, for an ‘inside’ dimension (excluding margins) of 20.5 x 27 cm.
